Gilchrist is a small unincorporated community in Klamath County, Oregon, United States. It is located along U.S. Route 97 and served by the Gilchrist State Forest Airport. The community was named after its founders, Henry and Robert Gilchrist, who established a sawmill and lumber company in the area in the early 1900s. Today, the economy of Gilchrist is driven by timber production and outdoor recreation, with nearby attractions including the Deschutes and Winema National Forests, and the nearby Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The community has a population of approximately 230 residents, and is known for its tranquil setting and outdoor recreational opportunities.
